Today was a gorgeous day for cycling. We left West Seneca, New York and made our way to downtown Buffalo. After 8 miles we arrived at the Peace Bridge. We had our passports, vax cards, ArriveCAN app number and COVID test results. The guard took our passports and briefly looked at our test results. AllContinue reading “Day 51 Oh Canada”

Day 50 Falcon Club
We left Erie, Pennsylvania at sunrise this morning powered by the ginormous brownies that Deb Zahler baked for us. Soon (20 miles) we entered New York State. We rode along Lake Erie and in vineyards for 60 miles. We could smell Concord grapes the entire time. Grapes have replaced cedar trees as our favorite smell.Continue reading “Day 50 Falcon Club”
Day 49 Rest Day
We spent the day in Erie, Pennsylvania while following our rest and recovery guidelines. Herb and Al visited the Erie Maritime Museum. We learned all about the War of 1812 and Oliver Hazard Perry. A recreation of his ship, the Niagara, is also on display. Chad visited the Erie Art Museum. Jim and Deb ZahlerContinue reading “Day 49 Rest Day”
Day 48 Baby Hoglet Sale
Today was another great day for a bicycle ride. Leaving Cleveland we backtracked down the hill through Rockefeller Park. After reading Dave’s comment yesterday we kept our eyes on the road and didn’t look into the bushes. The route followed the shoreline of Lake Erie and we were pretty much in a continuous urban areaContinue reading “Day 48 Baby Hoglet Sale”
Day 47 Judy’s Hand
We left Fremont, Ohio at 6:30 am. It was dark. Our route took us on the North Coast Inland Trail for 10 miles. It was paved and very smooth. At 35 miles we were in Huron, Ohio and shortly afterwards were able to get our first glimpse of Lake Erie. We did not see anotherContinue reading “Day 47 Judy’s Hand”
Day 46 Ballreich’s Potato Chips
Today was much the same as yesterday. Cool, wind in our faces and no sun. We left Paulding, Ohio about an hour before sunrise trying to beat the wind. It didn’t make any difference because the wind was still blowing. After about 10 miles we began following the Auglaize River. The trees along the riverContinue reading “Day 46 Ballreich’s Potato Chips”
Day 45 Line ‘O Mowers
Cloudy skies and intermittent rain mists greeted us this morning. We also had a headwind all day. After lunch the sun poked through the clouds and we were able to see our shadows. About 10 miles from our start in Wabash, Indiana we got to ride in Salamonie State Park. It was dark in theContinue reading “Day 45 Line ‘O Mowers”
Day 44 Battle Ground Elementary School
Another cool, overcast day greeted us as we left at dawn from Chad’s house in West Lafayette, Indiana. Annika had a great breakfast layout with every type of breakfast food you could think of. It made our peddling this morning much easier. Thank you Annika! Soon we passed through the towns of Prophetstown and BattleContinue reading “Day 44 Battle Ground Elementary School”
Day 43 Fog
Fog greeted us this morning. The fog made things more scenic for about 1-1/2 hours. Then the fog began to lift. Literally lift because for a while you could only see the bases of the wind turbines. Once again we escaped the rain storms that were in the area. Tonight we are staying in WestContinue reading “Day 43 Fog”
Day 42 Bat Removal
Today was much like yesterday; flat, windy and lots of corn and soybeans. Rain was in the forecast and most of the day was overcast. Even though it was cool, the air was very muggy. Fortunately, we missed the rain. As we peddled East we crossed three interstates, I-39, I-55 and I-57. It made usContinue reading “Day 42 Bat Removal”
